Subway Pass Commissions

Back of Subway Pass #21
Back of Subway Pass #20
Back of Subway Pass #19

For over a year now I’ve been sporadically doing drawings on the backs of Argentine Subway passes. Sometimes they’re of people I see, other times they’re based off of images I find, and some I just make up. A few weeks ago a fellow artist, welder Josh Welton, commissioned me to do the above passes. You can check out the entire gallery of Subway Pass drawings here.

To get your own custom Subway Pass, or to purchase existing passes contact me at jimmy@jimmydanko.com and we’ll make it happen.

You can check out Josh’s work at browndogwelding.com.

MUSIC IN THE VIDEO

This American by Joe Purdy

ARTIST: Joe Purdy
ALBUM: This American
SONG: Ride Off On A Cloud

For years I’ve been listening to the music of singer/songwriter Joe Purdy. In those quiet moments while driving home from work or while making the brushes dance in the studio, his lyrical stories and tunes found a way of pulling me in. This last drawing of mine, Station Wagon Spaceship, revolves around a story, so I was stoked when Joe said I could use his song for the video.

By choice Joe’s records are self-released, and what he’s been able to accomplish as an independent musician speaks to the quality of his craft. The song in the video, “Ride Off On A Cloud”, is off of Joe Purdy’s latest album This American. The entire album, including that song, can be downloaded for free on his site through the end 2010. Check it out. Get the latest Joe Purdy news and goodness online at the following places:

DANK Video 007 | Boombox Pilot | Music by Harlem Shakes

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

(having trouble viewing video? go here)

I have no idea where the inspiration for this drawing came from.

Music In The Video
The music in this one is by Harlem Shakes, a now defunct indie band out of NYC. After putting out an EP and solid full length album, “Technicolor Health”, the group disbanded in late 2009. The guitarist Todd Goldstein, is making new tunes though under the band name ARMS. You can check them out here.

The song in the video, “Sunlight”, along with the rest of the Harlem Shakes discography is available on iTunes here.

DANK Video | “Never Yawn″ | Music by Manuok

Felt like drawing an astronaut…

Music In The Video
ALBUM RELEASE! The 5th Dank art video coincides with the release of Manuok’s latest album, “The Old Horse”. The brain child of the talented Scott Mercado, Manuok was a band I had the delight of seeing play multiple times when I lived in San Diego. The song in the video “Warship” is off their second album No End To Limitations. While I’ll have to wait until I move back to the States before I see them play live again, I’m stoked that today I’ll get to taste a whole new version of the magic Mr. Mercado and his crew have been making.

You can get the new album, along with news and tour dates, at www.manuok.com

Sketchbook Vol. 19 - Back Cover
Above: The back cover is made up of newspaper clippings and a BART pass from a trip back to the States in July of 2009, a McDonald’s Cheeseburger wrapper in Spanish, tea bag wrappers from my good friend caffeine, and two numbered tickets from waiting in line at the Buenos Aires post office to ship Orange Gorilla Stickers around the world.

Sketchbook Vol. 19 - Front Cover
Above: The front cover is made up of pieces of newspapers from some of the cities I was in during a trip back to the States in July of 2009. The pink drips are leftover paint from my painting Bazooka Retrograde.
